Preventing Drug Misuse Among College Students
Listen to this video about why college students miss use drugs.
The first six weeks on campus are typically the most at risk for new college students to experiment with drugs because it is the first time away from home and they're no longer under any form of parental influence. For marijuana use, the perceived risk of harm for 18- to 22- year- olds is only at 21%. Meaning, only 21% see any risk in using marijuana. The prescription drug class most misused by college students are non-medical prescription stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin. This is where students run into the issue of taking fake pills and is the reason why we are seeing more overdoses across the country.
